Small Steps Create Big Shifts

The use of AI -not artificial insemination- but intelligence isn’t what you think it is.

I guess it may just be the millennial and half- farm kid in me, but every time I see the AI term used I always giggle. There is so much simplicity in life that gets turned into complex problems all in the same sense of making life much easier. Turn farming into the conversation to really make this hit home. It is probably a lot easier to run a tractor to farm the land than cutting, bailing and hauling hay by hand. But then again you have the complexity of the tractor needing work, service, or breaking down on you in the middle of cutting while the weather report is looking a bit iffy.

The use of AI has been incredible for helping us in this personalization business. It has helped with our voice in keeping the same tone of our business over all of our product descriptions on our website, www.dkslaser.com and helping make sure we keep things at top of mind awareness for our SEO marketing- which in me DIYing it, I’m killin it! Lots of you have found us from a quick google search. So #winning

Is that still a thing?

But man when that tractor starts making noise, you know there is rain on the forecast and you cannot afford to let that hay get bailed and put away- you start to pucker a little. The jobs some customers are sending over makes life total hell. It’s not their fault- it is simply an unknown problem in this world.

AI has been discussed pros and cons to any sort of the letter you want to believe, but it has NOT been publicly called out for this type of space. AI is taking jobs of creative people/artists/etc but not to 100%. And that is a good thing.

Chatgpt and other AI services are here for the longhaul. They do make things easy but boy oh boy is that struggle REAL when it comes to taking your design and putting them into workable art to engrave and sometimes print.

Unfortunately, the technology is not quite there yet and it makes what should be a :02 job taking a designer’s file and uploading it into software to run a job- into a 30 min discussion sending emails back and forth to get the correct file type- and then the file 'whereabout’ comes out and then it hits. OH! That’s why. But the consumer is surprised that it doesn’t work- because here’s my image, what do you mean it won’t work. It looks fine to me. There are different file types.

I guess from here on out- there needs to be some discussion about what the expectations are for using Chatgpt’s awful design skills and what it takes me to recreate your (its) work. We offer a basic fix of the logo/design for FREE, but the time limit has expired until we need to get paid to do it. A fee starting $25 per image/design or a flat fee of $85/hour. This doesn’t mean changing names/numbers- that is still included and a free service we offer.

We just wanted to inform and put it out there of what our concerns and troubles are in the space. Stay tuned for some more blogging content. This was kind of fun to do. And you may get some fun interactions/thoughts down the road.

Make Room for Growth

It All Begins Here.

Hiring us and why we are the correct ones for the job. We are a small family owned company. When we started our business journey almost 6 years ago- one of the main factors as to why is being able to directly impact our own income streams. During the blasted C word of 2019-2020 Holli was laid off from her job. Luckily during that time- her brother had a landscaping business that he left for 2 years on hold while he was out of the country. We built up his aeration and added a power raking side to his business to help him out but also to make up the loss of income for the 12+ weeks. We have always enjoyed helping people and making their lives easier. We took a lot of the business building we did on his values and put them with our years of working with the general public, working in the cosmetology industry and optical industry and on the flipside of manufacturing and ensuring speedy processes but with excellent quality control.

When we decided to invest in the business, we didn’t want to fuss with a cheaper hobby machine that had a major learning curve, slower processing speeds or have to source things from overseas for parts and have a lack of customer service. We decided to go with a commercial grade laser and a few years later added a commercial grade UV printer. This allows us to run at higher speeds, higher production output and it allows us to run for hours on end too.

Our philosophy from the beginning was to help out the smaller businesses. We understand the need for a set up fee -but really hate paying for it ourself. 95% of our products do not have a minimum quantity and no set up fees unless you need a logo edit. But if you give us a clean file that is the correct one for the job- we can flawlessly execute on 1000s of products that we have at our fingertips. We offer a fast turn around usually with a week and have very competitive pricing structure whether you need a single, a dozen or 300.
